Publishing with dinosaurs and stick figures

by Lauren

Short weeks always feel so busy, so rather than try to grapple with the news of the day, how about some comic strips?

Dinosaur Comics and xkcd are, for my money, two of the best web comics out there--and conveniently, both sometimes talk about books/publishing, so I can offer you relevant joy right here on our blog!  (If you enjoy what you see here, head over to their websites or buy their books!!)

I'm always on the lookout for something new, so if there are any web comics you're enjoying, let us know in the comments!

  1. If you ask me, Amazon really missed a golden marketing opportunity by not selling the Kindle as the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Some kind of limited edition Hitchhiker's Guide case would be an awesome promotion

  2. My two favorites as well, and that particular xkcd not only made me laugh (I think I probably shared it on Twitter, too), but gave me the chills and was (and is still is) the best argument in favor of buying a Kindle.

  3. I love the xkcd comics. They can always make me laugh outloud.

  4. Favorites of mine: Sheldon (, Abominable Charles Christopher (, Order of the Stick (, Two Lumps ( and Sluggy Freelance (

  5. Basic Instructions ( is a good one, too.

  6. My favs are Least I Could Do:

    and Questionable Content:

  7. I love those two as well, and I bet you'd also like Small Peculiar -- .

It's no longer being updated, but Animals Have Problems Too ( has a great archive.

  8. Wow. I had no IDEA that these existed! Not living in the States and not being 100% in touch, I miss out. All of these go a long way to making up for no more Calvin & Hobbes.

And now I know what to get my husband for his birthday, so thank you very much.

Written by a 5-year old. Pretty creative, but after a long day of reading bad writing, I'm not sure you'll like this one. Or maybe it'll be the perfect end to that day, because who can resist laughing at creative kids?
